Path to Sustainable Business Tax Credit:

B Corp Policy Seminar and Certification Workshop

When: Wednesday, January 13th; 5:15 to 7:00PM

Where: Wharton School of Business - Jon M. Huntsman Hall, 3730 Walnut Street, Room G55

Fee: Free

Presented by The Sustainable Business Network, Wharton Small Business Development Center and B Lab, please join us for an evening of education revolving around the B Lab Survey and newly passed Philadelphia tax credits.

In this Workshop you will learn:
  • What a B Corporation is and how to become one to qualify for the tax credit
  • Start the B Survey (step 1 of the process) with other local business owners and B Lab staff on site for help
  • Learn specific examples of social and environmental excellence from the community of B Corporations

Early this month, "The Philadelphia City Council voted unanimously to pass a bill that creates a new sustainable business tax credit for certified sustainable businesses located in the City of Philadelphia. For tax years 2012 through 2017, 25 eligible businesses shall receive a tax credit of $4,000 to be used against the gross receipts portion of the business privilege tax." (1)

This is great news not only for existing B Corporations, but for those businesses who aspire to become certified themselves. This is also perfect timing for this incentive as SBN is now requiring all members to complete the B Lab survey annually

Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia & Green Economy Task Force

The mission of the Sustainable Business Network is to build a just, green, and thriving economy in the Greater Philadelphia region. We accomplish this by educating and growing a broad base of local, independent businesses and educating policymakers and the public.

The Green Economy Task Force is a coalition of concerned citizens, businesses, government officials, organized labor, non-profits, and communities of faith that is working to build an inclusive green economy in the Philadelphia region that benefits our neighborhoods, our working families, and our planet. Convened by SBN in February of 2008, the Task Force has grown to include more than 650 Stakeholders and over 300 organizations.
